Programme 2011

Our theme – Uncovered, Reading between the lines

ROOTS is an all-age family festival, with age specific programmes of teaching, worship, and fellowship. Our vision is to create space to inspire spiritual renewal, effective mission, a prophetic voice and pioneering spirit.

Across all of our age specific programmes we will be taking a fresh look at the best selling book of all times, the bible.  We want to engage in reading and encountering the bible creatively, exploring the art, drama, poetry, story and song that weaves throughout the pages.  Each of the creative arts offers a way of appreciating Scripture and deepening our encounter with God through his word: not content with just having the book but reading between the lines and applying the meaning to our lives as individuals and communities.

Our theme will continue the trend of previous ROOTS events by exploring a particular aspect of doctrine: e.g. Holiness (2010), Resurrection (2006), Trinity (2005). This theme will continue the desire of ROOTS to draw from the wider church by linking to ‘Bible Fresh’, an initiative to encourage reading, training, translation and artistic use of the bible.  Click here to find out more about Biblefresh.  The theme is also encouraged, once again, by the continuing call of the International Spiritual Life Commission: “We call Salvationists worldwide to a renewed and relevant proclamation of and close attention to the word of God, and to a quick and ready obedience to the radical demands of the word upon Salvationists personally, and upon our Movement corporately”. We are also aware of the rich heritage of creativity that has inspired Salvationists through music, song, drama and poetry and would wish to continue to encourage fresh expressions of creativity.
